Making A Schmelke Cue

Producing a great cue begins with quality wood. Our buyer purchases wood from all over the world. We select Hard Maple from Canada and Northern Michigan, Cocobola and Bocote from Mexico and Nicarauga, East Indian Rosewood from from Indonesia, and Curapy and Goncolo Alves from Paraguay are just a few.

We have in stock between 50,000 and 75,000 pieces of wood in our climate controlled warehouse. This guarentees a good and well seasoned supply of wood at all times. Once in the warehouse, the wood dries at least six more months before it is selected for production.

Once selected, the wood is "turned" in state of the art wood- turning equipment. The wood is placed between two centers, using CNC equipment to set a precise taper. A 5 tooth cutter then makes small passes to prevent undue stress on the wood.

We offer a joint style to fit all players. The joint style affects the hit, appearance and balance of the cue. For example, our Joint #1, brass to brass, provides a very hard hit and forward balance while our Joint #4 provides a soft hit and more feel.

The cue is taken apart and both sections are checked seperately to guarantee straightness and accuracy. Any custom inlay work is then done on our CNC router.

The cue is sanded and prepared for finishing. The wood is sealed and two coats of ultra-violet cured finish is applied, giving the cue a high gloss finish.

The finished cue may be wrapped in a choice of linen, nylon or leather. These wraps come in a variety of color choice. The final step is to check for straightness and quality. The cue is now ready for action!
